... and at Stellenbosch

Thanks for this notice, the topic sounds fascinating.

I will have to be content with this talk, but the lucky ones in the Western Cape has the following event coming:

I just happened to notice today a conference on lessons from Acts for the missional church at the University of Stellenbosch, 18-20 May, where McKnight and others will be talking and you (Nelus Niemandt) will also participate. The participants in the small groups include pastors and NT scholars across a wide theological spectrum, from conservative evangelical (David Seccombe) to more centrist/mainstream and beyond, including Jeremy Punt from Stellenbosch.

Friends of Communitas are also hosting a gathering with Scot McKnight on Friday 15 May from 09h00 to 12h30 at the Faculty of Theology (Stellenbosch) , along the theme: “Being Missional Churches – What can we learn from the New Testament church and from recent developments about being a missional church in SA?” Prof McKnight will share with us and there will be time for questions and discussion afterwards. There will be no costs to this conference on 15 May.

Oh dear, and I had it in my diary for next year, and was thinking how nice it was to have notice so long in advance.

I'm sorry to have missed the opportunity to hear him.

‘Talle verlaat Christen-geloof’
May 12 2009 08:19:23:410PM - (SA)

Neels Jackson

veilige ruimtes

Dankie (UberBarista) Eugene
Ek hou baie van the idea van "veilige ruimtes" - a gooie naam vir 'n gemeente?

So, as 'n pastoor, hoe adress jy hierdie punte met die jeug in you gemeente?

Het jy Koos Kombuis se bekerings storie gesien? http://www.emergentafrica.com/blog/2009/02/06/koos-kombuis-has-emerged

Addressing the doubting blikskottels

"So, as 'n pastoor, hoe adress jy hierdie punte met die jeug in you gemeente?"
Nic, dealing with youth who says they are leaving Christianity/have difficulty believing in God is very new to us. We want to create a safe environment where questions about God and faith can be asked but it is proving to be difficult. People come with baggage of previous encounters with church and church people and for them to trust takes time. A lot of the time they will not really ask the questions that is causing them to doubt in fear of judgement or rejection. At other times they will ask questions to provoke or test and to know the difference or discern what is realy going on is... well realy difficult. With two of the young people we suspect that it is more caused by their struggling relationships with their parents, not that makes their questions less sincere but there we have to deal with that hurt as well. The one thing we have decided is to keep loving them as long as they permit it. We just hope and pray that they will experience our love as real and keep coming back.
Please pray together with us for wisdom and that they will have a real experience with God that will be bigger than their doubts, hurts and fears.

... there's a song in there someplace. And, he Spirit is telling me it's in E.

Eugene, you are at the pastoral coalface. That's exciting and painful. Much of what needs to happen involves both yourselves and your friends learning together. You need to let them journey, but give them a golden thread which is your unconditional acceptance. And you need to celebrate their journey too, while pointing out its dangers.

Yes the familial voice will be strong, especially in a Calvinistic framework. Dad will often be the punisher. Deconstructing this negative Father-image is a pastoral task of great urgency.

Groete

Wow Robert, a long, rambling

Wow Robert, a long, rambling thesis as to why everybody else is wrong except for you and your group. No explanation as to why you left the church, unless you're saying, "Here's why I realised I was wrong. Now I'm part of this different thing, and I encourage all Christians to return to Torah and place themselves under Rabbinic authority."

Marvellous example of proof-texting, which will find you few supporters of on this blog.

That said, the post does bring up some relevant points, such as the complicated relationship between Jews and Christians, and the unfortunately executed evangelistic attempts by Christians towards Jews over the centuries. This is indeed something worth interrogating, and my chosen starting point is N.T. Wright, who lays out the complexity pretty well.

hii

I am quite impressed and just wanted to let you know that you did a fine job on this article. However, I do have some unanswered questions that I would like to ask you. I will contact you via email so that you can clear some of these things up for me. Again, very well written article. Keep up the good work. Best Acne Treatment
